This piece is about my caesarean birth of my twin daughters. It seeks to capture the conflict between life and renewal, with themes of terror, pain and death. It depicts the interference of foreign hands wrenching apart one of life's most intimate relationships, and denying the most basic instinct of self-preservation. It captures the sense of losing one's autonomy, security and sense of control within a highly functional and medicalised environment.
This piece is part of a series of works that explore life, death and rebirth in a woman's experience of pregnancy, childbirth and becoming a mother.
